Her Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has approved the following By-law made by the Macquarie University Council under the Macquarie University Act 1989.

Explanatory note
The object of this By-law is to change the composition of:
| (a) | the Council of Macquarie University, and |
| (b) | the Nominations Committee of the Council, and |
| (c) | the Academic Senate of the University. |
This By-law is made under the Macquarie University Act 1989, including section 9 (1) (c) (concerning the constitution of the Council), section 15 (concerning the constitution of the Academic Senate), section 28 (the general power to make by-laws) and section 29 (the power of the by-laws to empower any authority to make rules).

2 Commencement
This By-law commences on the day on which it is published on the
NSW legislation website.

Omit “one external person”. Insert instead “two external persons”.

Insert after clause 14 (1) (a):

Omit the clause. Insert instead:
27 Constitution of Academic Senate
(1) For the purposes of section 15 (1) (b) of the Act, the additional members of the Academic Senate are such other members as are determined by the rules made by the Council in respect of the Academic Senate. (2) Any person who, immediately before the repeal and re-enactment of this clause by the Macquarie University Amendment By-law 2010, held office as a member of the Academic Senate continues to hold office as such up to and including 31 December 2010.
