Act No. 40, 1968.

An Act to make further provisions in respect of the appointment or election of certain members of the Council of the Macquarie University; for this purpose to amend the Macquarie University Act, 1964, as subsequently amended; and for purposes connected therewith. [Assented to, 12th Novem­ ber, 1968.]

BE it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by
and with the advice and consent of the Legislative
Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in
Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as
follows: —

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the "Macquarie

University (Amendment) Act, 1968".

(2) The Macquarie University Act, 1964, as subse­ quently amended and as amended by this Act, may be cited as the Macquarie University Act, 1964-1968.

2.      The Macquarie University Act, 1964, as subsequently

amended, is amended—

(a) by omitting subsection five of section ten and by inserting in lieu thereof the following new sub- section : —

(5) (a) Three members, being persons having professorial rank, shall be appointed or elected, in the manner provided by the by-laws, by the professors and other members of the teaching staff of the University.

(b) Two members, being members of the teaching staff not having professorial rank, shall be appointed or elected, in the manner provided by the by-laws, by the professors and other members of the teaching staff of the University.

(b) by inserting at the end of subsection six of the same
of the staff of the University shall be ineligible to
section the following proviso : — Provided that a person who is a full time member
be elected as a member under this subsection.

(c)

by inserting at the end of subsection seven of the same section the following proviso : —

Provided that a person who is a full time member
of the staff of the University shall be ineligible to
be appointed or elected as a member under this
subsection. 3.

Notwithstanding the provisions of this Act but subject to the provisions of the Macquarie University Act, 1964, as subsequently amended, the members of the Council appointed or elected under subsection five or seven of section ten of that Act, as so amended, and holding office as such members immediately before the commencement of this Act, shall continue in office as such members for the residue of the term for which they were so appointed or elected, but shall unless otherwise disqualified be eligible for re-appointment or re-election.
