His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Macquarie University Act 1989, is pleased to approve the following By-law made by the Council of Macquarie University.

Explanatory note
The object of this By-law is to amend the Macquarie University By-laws to make provision for the awarding of an honorary degree of Doctor of the University.
This By-law is made under the Macquarie University Act 1989, including sections 16 and 28 (1) (the general power to make by-laws), in particular section 28 (1) (s).

The Council of Macquarie University, in pursuance of section 28 of the
Macquarie University Act 1989, makes the following By-law:
1 Name of By-law
This By-law is the Macquarie University Amendment By-law
1997.
2 Amendment of Macquarie University By-laws
The Macquarie University By-laws are amended as set out in
Schedule 1.

The explanatory note does not form part of this By-law.

(Clause 2)
Chapter X—Courses and Degrees
Omit By-law X.3 (2). Insert instead:
(2) The Council may admit any person approved by the
Council, Honoris Causa, to the following:
(a) the degree of Doctor of Science (HonDSc), (b) the degree of Doctor of Letters (HonDLitt), (c) the degree of Doctor of Laws (Hon LLD), (d) the degree of Doctor of the University
(HonDUni v).
