TOTAL ALLOWABLE CATCH DETERMINATION – 2007/2008 SEASON

The Australian Fisheries Management Authority makes the following Determination under section 11 of the Macquarie Island Toothfish Fishery Management Plan 2006.

Citation

1.       This Determination may be cited as the MITF 2007/2008 TAC D2 Determination.

Commencement

2.This Determination commences on the day after registration on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments.

Application

3.This Direction applies to a holder of a fishing concession in the Macquarie Island Toothfish Fishery and to a person acting on behalf of the holder of that fishing concession.

Interpretation

4.A term used in this Determination that is defined in the Macquarie Island Toothfish Fishery Management Plan 2006 has the same meaning in this Determination as it has in that Plan.

[Note: Terms defined in the Fisheries Management Act 1991 have the same meanings in this Direction.]

Determination of total allowable catch

5.       The TACs for the season in the Macquarie Island Toothfish Fishery which commences on 1 July 2007 and which will end on 30 June 2008 are:

Target species: Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides)

Aurora Trough                  390 tonnes

     Macquarie Ridge                86 tonnes (with a trigger TAC of 228 tonnes*)

* the 228 tonnes is triggered if catch rates reach a threshold of an average catch rate of 10 tonnes/km2 over 3 consecutive fishing days and revert back to 86 tonnes if catch rates were to fall below this rate, or, if more than 86 tonnes had been taken, the Macquarie Ridge would be closed.

Bycatch Species

200 tonnes for all bycatch species combined with a 50 tonnes limit on any one species.
