LOTTERIES AND ART UNIONS ACT 1991—REGULATION

(Relating to the holding of sweeps and calcuttas in connection with certain

sporting events)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Lotteries and Art Unions Act 1901, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

The Lotteries and Games of Chance Regulations 1966 are amended by

omitting Regulation 10 and by inserting instead the following Regulation:

Prescribed events for sweeps and calcuttas

10. For the purposes of paragraph (b) of the definition of

“prescribed event” in section 4D (1) of the Act:

(a)

the Sydney Cup, the Newcastle Cup, the Goulburn Cup, the Orange Cup, the Forbes Cup, the Armidale Cup, the Fosters Queanbeyan City Cup and each other principal annual Cup race conducted by a racing club registered in New South Wales under the Rules of Racing of the Australian Jockey Club; and

(b)

each horse-racing event named in Column 1 of Part 1 of the Table to this clause and conducted by the organisation named in Column 2 of that Part opposite the name of that event; and

(c) each event named in Part 2 or 3 of the Table to this clause,

is prescribed as an event in relation to which both sweeps and
calcuttas may be conducted.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

At present, the Lotteries and Art Unions Act 1901 and the Lotteries and Games of Chance Regulations 1966 allow sweeps and calcuttas to be held in connection with 3 horse races, the Melbourne Cup, the Brambles 2 Year Old Classic and the Wellington Boot.

The object of this Regulation is to amend the Lotteries and Games of Chance Regulations 1966 so as to permit the holding of sweeps and calcuttas in connection with certain additional sporting events.
