His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Lotteries and Art Unions Act 1901.

Explanatory note
The objects of this Regulation are:
to increase, from $500 to $4,000, the maximum value of a prize that may be offered in a game of chance conducted in the course of a charitable fundraising appeal (Schedule 1 [l]), and
to increase, from $15 to $30, the maximum value of a prize that may be offered in a game of chance conducted on the premises of a registered club by or on behalf of the club for its members and their guests (Schedule 1 [3]), and
Art Unions Act 1901 in respect of games of chance known as prescribed for the purposes of section 4A (3) (g) of the Lotteries and to reduce, from 15% to 12.5%, the proportion of the gross proceeds “Housie” (Schedule 1 [2]). Published in Gazette No 31 of 27 March 1997, page 1694 Page 1

Explanatory note
Section 4A (3) (g) specifies one of the several conditions that are to be met in respect of games of chance conducted in the course of a charitable fundraising appeal. It requires the whole of the profits, or the prescribed proportion of the gross proceeds, of the game (whichever is the greater) to be paid into the funds of the organisation conducting the appeal.
This Regulation is made under the Lotteries and Art Unions Act 1901, and,
in particular, under sections 4A (Certain organisations authorised to conduct
games of chance), 4C (Games of chance in registered clubs) and 23 (the
general regulation-making power).

1 Name of Regulation
This Regulation is the Lotteries and Art Unions (Lotteries and Games of Chance) Amendment (Prizes and Proceeds) Regulation 1997.
2 Commencement
This Regulation commences on 1 April 1997.
