s1 2 s4 Lotteries Amendment (No. 2) No. 81, 1997 ˙ Short title 1. This rule may be cited as the Lotteries Amendment Rule (No. 2) 1997 . ˙ Rule amended 2. This rule amends the Lotteries Rule 1996 . ˙ Insertion of new s 41 3. After section 40— insert— ˙ Application of provisions of rule to promotional lotteries 41. The provisions of this rule apply to promotional lotteries only to the extent that they can be sensibly applied having regard to the provisions of schedule 9.’. ˙ Insertion of new sch 9 4. After schedule 8— insert— SCHEDULE 9 PROMOTIONAL LOTTERIES section 2(2) PART 1—PRELIMINARY ˙ Conduct of, and prizes in, promotional lotteries 1. This schedule provides more detail about the conduct of, and prizes in, lotteries known as promotional lotteries.

In this schedule— “approved schedule” , for a drawing of a promotional lottery, means the schedule approved for the drawing by the Minister under section 8. ˙ Agency payment period 3. Unless a condition of entry in a drawing of a promotional lottery is that a claim for a prize must be made in a specified way, at a specified place or within a specified period, the agency payment period for a drawing of a promotional lottery is 13 weeks after the drawing. ˙ Advertising 4.(1) Before the corporation conducts a drawing of a promotional lottery, the corporation must advertise the following information— (a) how to enter the drawing; (b) how the drawing will be conducted; (c) the prize structure approved by the Minister under section 20(1)(b) of the Act. (2) Advertising under subsection (1) must be carried out in the way the corporation considers most appropriate for the particular drawing but may include any of the following— (a) television, radio, or newspaper advertising; (b) notices displayed at selling points; (c) information on the entry forms for the drawing.
s4 4 s4 Lotteries Amendment (No. 2) No. 81, 1997 SCHEDULE 9 (continued) PART 2—ENTERING A DRAWING OF A PROMOTIONAL LOTTERY ˙ How to enter a drawing of a promotional lottery 5.(1) A person enters a drawing of a promotional lottery in the way— (a) stated in the approved schedule for the drawing; and (b) advertised for the drawing. (2) The following ways, and reasonable variations of the ways, of entering a drawing of a promotional lottery may be approved— (a) entering a drawing of another lottery, including entering a specified number of drawings of the other lottery; (b) spending a specified amount on entries in a drawing of another lottery; (c) entering a drawing of another lottery for a specified number of weeks; (d) entering drawings of a specified number or type of lotteries in 1 week; (e) entering a drawing of instant scratch-its; (f) completing and returning to the corporation an entry form that has been sent to a registered player; (g) being, or becoming, a registered player and entering another lottery; (h) asking an agent about a specified lottery; (i) entering a drawing of another lottery, watching a specified television channel or listening to a specified radio station and ringing a specified telephone number after a specified event happens, for example, the gold lotto jingle is played on the television channel or radio station; (j) entering a drawing of another lottery, watching the television channel on which the drawing is shown, having the extra number
s4 5 s4 Lotteries Amendment (No. 2) No. 81, 1997 SCHEDULE 9 (continued) drawn for the promotional lottery by the drawing equipment and ringing a specified telephone number within a specified time; (k) a combination of 2 or more of the ways mentioned in paragraphs (a) to (j). PART 3—DRAWING A PROMOTIONAL LOTTERY ˙ Drawing a promotional lottery 6.(1) The drawing of a promotional lottery must be conducted in the way— (a) stated in the approved schedule for the drawing; and (b) advertised for the drawing. (2) The way of drawing a promotional lottery may consist of, or include, the use of mechanical, electronic or other types of devices or aids. (3) The following ways, and reasonable variations of the ways, of drawing a promotional lottery may be approved— (a) causing the drawing equipment for another lottery to generate a winning number matching a player’s registration number, a number representing a player’s registration number, a player’s entry number or a number representing a player’s entry number; (b) causing to be drawn from the drawing equipment for another lottery a series of winning numbers matching players’ entry numbers; (c) revealing a prize when the printed matter is exposed in a bonus game panel on an instant scratch-its ticket; (d) revealing a prize when the printed matter is exposed in a panel on a special scratch-its ticket; (e) drawing 1 or more entry forms from a barrel; (f) being the first person to ring a specified telephone number after a
s4 6 s4 Lotteries Amendment (No. 2) No. 81, 1997 SCHEDULE 9 (continued) specified event happens, for example, the gold lotto jingle is played on a television channel or radio station; (g) being the first person with a winning number to ring a specified telephone number if an extra number is drawn before or after the numbers are drawn for another lottery; (h) drawing a set of winning numbers for the promotional lottery before or after the winning numbers are drawn in another lottery; (i) a combination of any of the above ways. ˙ Time for drawing 7. The drawing of a promotional lottery must be conducted within 1 year after the drawing is first advertised. PART 4—APPROVED SCHEDULE ˙ Approved schedule 8.(1) The Minister may approve a schedule for a drawing of a promotional lottery. (2) The approved schedule must contain— (a) how to enter the drawing; and (b) how the drawing will be conducted.’.
