NEW SOUTH WALES

An Act to amend the Local Government Act 1919 with respect to Act No. 117, 1987

disqualification for civic office. [Assented to 16 June 1987]

Local Government (Secret Commissions) Amendment 1987

BE it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Short title

1. This Act may be cited as the "Local Government (Secret

Commissions) Amendment Act 1987".

Commencement

2. (1) Sections 1 and 2 shall commence on the date of assent to this

Act.

(2) Except as provided by subsection (1), this Act shall commence on the

commencement of the Crimes (Secret Commissions) Amendment Act 1987.

Amendment of Act No. 41, 1919

3. The Local Government Act 1919 is amended by omitting section 30

(2) (k) and by inserting instead the following paragraph:

(k) the person has been convicted of an offence against—

(i) the Secret Commissions Prohibition Act 1919 committed before the commencement of the Crimes (Secret Commissions) Amendment Act 1987; or

(ii) Part IVA of the Crimes Act 1900,
and the period for which the person is, in respect of the conviction,

disqualified for a civic office has not elapsed; or
