PART 1

PRELIMINARY

Short Title

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Local Government (Members Allowances for Expenses) Regulations, 1984.

Prescribed Limits

2. (1) Subject to subregulation (2) of this regulation, the prescribed limits of the rates of the annual allowances to be paid to council members pursuant to Section 49(1)(a) of the Act, with respect to council members who are aldermen or councillors, are declared to be not less than $500 per annum and not more than $2 025 per annum.

(2) Subregulation (1) of this regulation shall not apply with respect to members of councils who are mayors, chairmen, deputy mayors, deputy chairmen or with respect to members of councils who are acting mayors, acting chairmen, acting deputy mayors or acting deputy chairmen.

3. The expenses of a prescribed kind which shall be received by members of councils pursuant to Section 49(1)(b) of the Act are declared to be the kinds of expenses set out in the Schedule.

THE SCHEDULE

Travelling expenses actually and necessarily incurred by a member in attending meetings of the council, its committees, or other functions or activities which the member has been authorised by the council to attend on the business of the council.

Expenses actually and necessarily incurred by a member for mid-day or evening meals when a meeting of the council has been adjourned before and resumed after the normal meal hour.

Child care expenses actually and necessarily incurred by the member as a consequence of his attendance at meetings of the council, its committees or other functions or activities which he has been authorised by the council to attend on behalf of the council.
