LOCAL GOVERNMENT (HOW-TO-VOTE CARDS) REGULATIONS, 1987

These regulations are reprinted pursuant to the Subordinate Legislation Act 1978 and incorporate all amendments in force as at 8 February 1995.

It should be noted that the regulations were not revised (for obsolete references, etc.) prior to the publication of this reprint.

Citation

1. These regulations may be cited as the Local Government (How-to-Vote Cards) Regulations,

1987.

Commencement

2. These regulations shall come into operation on 8 January, 1987.

Forms of cards

3. How-to-vote cards submitted by candidates under section 114 of the Act for display in voting

compartments at polling booths—

(a)

must be printed;

(c)

must have printed on one side—

(i)

the words "HOW-TO-VOTE";

(ii)

the name of the council, the name of the office and, where the election is for a ward, the name of the ward;

(iii)

the names of all the candidates;

(iv)

where the method of counting applying at the election is the method set out in Section 121(3)—the number "1" surrounded by a square opposite the name of one candidate, and may have consecutive numbers commencing with the number "2", each surrounded by a square, opposite the names of all or any of the other candidates;

(v)

where the method of counting applying at the election is the method set out in section 121(4)—consecutive numbers beginning with the number "1" each surrounded by a square, opposite the names of a number of candidates being not less than the number required to be elected, and may continue with consecutive numbers, each surrounded by a square, opposite the names of one or more of the other candidates;

(vi)

the name and address of the person who authorised the printing of the card;

and

(vii)

the name and address of the person who printed the card;

and

(d)

may have printed on the side used under paragraph (c) a reproduction in black and white of a recent full-faced vertical photograph of the head and shoulders of the candidate submitting the card.

Card not to contain other matter

4. Except for the matters referred to in regulation 3, no other matter may be printed or

otherwise appear on the side referred to in regulation 3(c).
