Local Government (Election of Mayors) Order 1998

I, the Lieutenant-Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following order under section 40 of the Local Government Act 1993 .22 June 1998

1Short titleThis order may be cited as the Local Government (Election of Mayors) Order 1998 . 2CommencementThis order takes effect on the day on which its making is notified in the Gazette. 3InterpretationThe Acts Interpretation Act 1931 applies to the interpretation of this order as if this order were by-laws. 4Election of mayors and deputy mayors (1)  The mayor and deputy mayor of a council specified in column 1 of Schedule 1 are to be elected by the councillors of that council. (2)  The mayor and deputy mayor of a council specified in column 2 of Schedule 1 are to be elected by the electors of the relevant municipal area. 5RescissionThe Local Government (Election of Mayors) Order 1996 is rescinded.
