LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT 1919—ORDINANCE
(Relating to parking meters in the City of Newcastle)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council,
and in pursuance of the Local Government Act 1919, has been pleased to
make the Ordinance set forth hereunder.

Commencement
1. This Ordinance takes effect on 1 December 1991.
Amendment of Ordinance No. 34A
2. Ordinance No. 34A made under the Local Government Act 1919 is
amended by omitting clause 8A and by inserting instead the following
clause:
Exemptions
8A. Clauses 7 and 8 do not apply to any vehicle:
(a) displaying a disabled person’s parking authority for the time being in force; or (b) that is within the Newcastle City Council area and is displaying a valid pre-paid parking coupon authorised by that Council,
as long as any condition specified in the authority or coupon (including directions as to the manner in which the authority or coupon is to be displayed on the vehicle) are complied with.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
Ordinance No. 34A made under the Local Government Act 1919 currently exempts a person whose vehicle displays a current disabled person’s parking authority from the requirement to insert coins in a parking meter when standing the vehicle in a metered parking space.
The object of this Ordinance is to amend that Ordinance so as to extend the
exemption to those persons whose vehicles are within the area of the City of
Newcastle and are displaying valid pre-paid coupons authorised by that Council.
