LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT 1919 - ORDINANCE

(Relating to offences in connection with greyhounds on public roads)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Local Government Act 1919, has been pleased to make the Ordinance set forth hereunder.

Ordinance No. 30 under the Local Government Act 1919 is amended by omitting clause 9 A and by inserting instead the following clause:

Greyhounds

9A. (1) A person must not allow or cause a greyhound to go on

to the footway of a public road except for the purpose of crossing

directly from the public road into private premises.

(2) A person under 16 years of age, unless accompanied by an

adult, must not lead or exercise a greyhound on a public road.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Ordinance is to amend Ordinance No. 30 so as:

(a) to repeal provisions which provide that a person must not lead or exercise

a greyhound on a public road in certain areas unless it is muzzled and that

a person must not lead or cxercise on a public road in certain in areas more

than 4 greyhounds at any one time. The Dog Act 1966 provides for offences
of that nature; and

(b)

to repeal provisions which prohibit the leading or exercising of greyhounds on specified roads in certain areas. The Dog Act 1966 provides that councils may, by a published order, declare that greyhounds cannot be led or exercised on particular roads.

This Ordinance re-enacts those offences relating to greyhounds not covered by the

Dog Act 1966.
