8304 LOANS.-LOCAL AUTHORITIES. Local Autlwrities Acts Amendment Act. 8 GEO. V. No. 19, 1917. Provi~ onB 9. Upon proof being made, on oath, before a Judge ! > ~ Bllllost, of the Supreme Court that any Treasury Bill issued under . this Act, the number and sum whereof are specified, has been lost or accidentally burnt or otherwise destroyed before the same has been paid off, and upon such Judge certifying that he is satisfied with such proof, the Treasurer may cause a new Bill to be made out at theTreasury bearing the same number, date, currency, principal sum, and rate of interest as the Bill so lost or destroyed, and to be delivered to the person who was the holder of the Bill so lost or destroyed upon his giving sufficient security to the Treasurer to indemnify the Treasury against any double payment if the missing Bill should thereafter be presented for payment. Cancelling of 10. All Treasury Bills issued under this Act, after ~ ~ ~arged being paid off and discharged, shall be cancelled, and shall, together with all checks, indents, and counterfoils belonging to them, be burned or otherwise destroyed in the presence of the Auditor-General and the Under Secretary of the Treasury, who shall certify the fact of such destruction to the Treasurer. This Act may be cited as "The Local Authorities :!truct' Acts Amendment Act of 1917," and shall be read as one -of Act. Ion with "The Local Authorities Acts, 1902-1913."* "The Local Authorities Act of 1902"t as amended by subsequent Acts is herein referred to as the Principal Act. * 2 Edw. VII. LOCAL AUTHORITIES.-MEDICAL. 8305 8 GEO. V. No. 7,1917. Opticians Act. 2. In the third paragraph of section one hundred Amendment and forty-nine of the Principal Act, after the word of s. 149. " light" the words "(other than electric light)" are inserted, and, in the same paragraph, after the word "power" the words "(other than electric power)" are inserted. The following provision is added to the said section:- " Nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent or limit the powers of a Local Authority to enter upon and carry on the business of an Electric Authority under 'The Electric Light and Power Act, 1896.' ,,* 3. The following subsection is added to section two Amendment hundred and twenty-six of the Principal Act:- of s. 226. (5.) Notwithstanding anything contained inthis Act, a Local Authority is hereby empowered, in any case where it thinks proper so to do, to remit and wholly discharge any Rates made and levied under this Act in respect of any land for the payment of which any person is or may be or become liable while engaged in active service with His Majesty's Forces during the continuance of the present War, and for a further period of six months after his return from active service.
