An Ordinance to authorise the Governor of Western Australia to raise the sum of. Two Thousand Pounds on Loan, for the erection of a Gaol, or for other public ser- vices of the colony.

HEREAS the construction of a suitable gaol in the town of Preamble.

utility ; and whereas the annual Revenue of this colony is utterly inadequate to defray the expenses of such a building, as well as to meet some other pressing demands on account of the public service; and whereas it is expedient to raise a stun sufficient for such purposes by way of loan, the repayment of -which sum, with interest, shall be secured on the Colonial Revenue:— Be it therefore enacted, by His Excellency the Governor of Western Australia and its Dependencies, -with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof; That at any time during twelve calendar months next from and after

to the passing of this Ordinance, it shall be lawful for the said Gov- ernor, with the advice and consent of the Executive. Council of the said colony, to borrow and take up in such manner as to him or them shall seem advisable, a sum not exceeding. Two Thousand Pounds for the purposes aforesaid, at a rate of interest not exceeding seven pounds for every hundred pounds by the year.

If a less sum be raised it II. PROVIDED always, that in case the said sum of Two
