Lighthouses and Light Dues Regulations2(Amendment)

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulation under the Lighthouses Act 1911.

Vessels exempted

Regulation 20 of the Lighthouses and Light Dues Regulations is amended—

  • (a)

    by omitting paragraph (f) and substituting the following paragraph:

    • “(f)

      a ship that is less than 24 metres in tonnage length;”; and

  • (b)

    by adding at the end the following sub-regulations:

  • “(2)

    For the purposes of sub-regulation (1), the tonnage length of a ship is—

    • (a)

      a length equal to 96 per cent of the total length of the ship measured on a waterline that is at a distance, from the top of the keel, equal to 85 per cent of the least moulded depth of the ship; or

    • (b)

      if the length of the ship measured from the fore side of the stem to the axis of the rudder stock on that waterline is greater than the length ascertained in accordance with paragraph (a)—that greater length.

  • “(3)

    In the case of a ship designed with a rake of keel, the waterline on which the total length of the ship is to be measured for the purposes of sub-regulation (2) shall be parallel to the designed waterline.

  • “(4)

    For the purposes of sub-regulation (2), ‘least moulded depth’, in relation to a ship, means the least moulded depth of the ship as ascertained in accordance with the Navigation (Load Lines) Regulations.”.
