An Act to provide for the payment of Dues towards the maintenance of Light-houses at Gabo Island and Cape Otway respectively.

Wales and i t is expedient to provide for t he paymen t of dues towards WH E R E A S Light-houses are in course of erection on Gabo I s land and a t Cape Otway respectively in t h e Colony of New South

t h e ma in tenance of t he said Light -houses when completed and in operat ion Be i t therefore enacted by H i s Excel lency the Governor of

N e w South W a l e s wi th the advice and consent of t h e Legislat ive

Council thereof T h a t when and so soon as e i ther of t h e said L igh t ­ houses shall have come in to ac tua l operat ion not ice thereof shall be given in t he New South Wales Government Gazette and from and after t h e expirat ion of one calendar m o n t h from t h e date of t he publ i ­ cation of such notice t he mas te r or commander of every ship or vessel (except as hereinafter is excepted) a r r iv ing a t or depar t ing from any por t in New South W a l e s shall pay in to the hands of the Collector or o ther Chief Officer of Cus toms appointed for such por t t he sum of one penny for every ton of t h e registered measurement of such ship or vessel for each of t h e said Light -houses so notified as aforesaid as hav ing come in to operat ion which such ship or vessel shall have passed or m a y pass or which shall be in t h e direct or usual course of such ship or vessel in her passage to or from such por t whe the r such ship or vessel shal l s ight such Ligh t -house or no t and whether such ship or vessel shall pass t h r o u g h Bass's Strai ts or go to t he sou thward of V a n D i e m e n ' s L a n d Provided always tha t all ships and vessels employed in t h e Colonial or Coast ing t rade or t r ade wi th any of t h e Aus t r a l i an Colonies except as hereinafter is excepted shall be charged wi th one-

th i rd only of t he r a t e aforesaid.

2. Provided always and be i t enacted Tha t all ships and vessels employed in t he coast ing t rade between this Colony and V a n Diemen ' s L a n d a n d all ships and vessels engaged in t h e fisheries shall be whol ly exempt from the ra tes or dues hereby imposed.

3 . A n d be it declared and enacted Tha t n o t h i n g in th i s Act

contained shal l be deemed to a l ter or repeal t he l ight -house dues payable unde r a cer tain Act of the Governor and Legislat ive Council of N e w South W a l e s passed in t he th i rd year of t he re ign of H i s late
