XX ACT to increase the number of Members

to serve in the Legislative Council.

HEREAS it is expedient to increase the number of Members

Excellency the Governor of Western Australia and its Dependencies.Wto serve in the. Legislative Council: Be it enacted by His

by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council

thereof, as follows:-

1. THE following portions of "The Legislative Council Act Amendment Act, 187:1- shall be and the same are hereby repealed ;

that is to say, the whole of the first section of the said Act, and so much of the second section, and of the portion of the Schedule thereto numbered five, as is inconsistent with the present Act and with the Schedules annexed.

2. FROM and after the passing of this Act, the Legislative

Council shall consist of twenty-four members, eight of whom (being Council to consbt of 24

members.

one-third part of the whole number of members) shall be appointed b y Her Majesty, according to the provisions of an Act of the Imperial Parliament in that behalf in part recited in the Ordinance passed in the thirty-third year of Her present Majesty, Number 13, and sixteen of whom shall from time to time be elected as by law is provided.

THE "Northern District." as defined by the said Act, shall be subdivided into two Electoral Districts. The one shall consist of such portions of the said --Northern District" as are contained within the boundaries as laid down in the Schedule annexed hereto marked A: such district shall be called the "Gascoyne District," and shall return one member. The other district shall consist of such

portions of the said "Northern District " as are contained within the boundaries as laid down in the Schedule annexed hereto marked B: such district shall be called the -' Northern District," and shall return two members.

THE member at present sitting in the Legislative Council for the " Northern Disnict," as defined by the said Act, shall from and after the passing of this Act. and during the continuance of the present Council. be deemed and taken to sit for the " Northern District" only as defined by this Act.

Legislative Council Act—Amendment.

Schedule A.

Gascoyne District.

Bounded on the South by the North boundary of the Geraldton District ; and on the North by a line drawn from Point Cloates to the Capricorn Range ; thence East. Including all islands lying between the North and South boundaries.

Schedule B.

Northern District.

All lands to the North of the Gascoyne District as defined above, and all

islands lying adjacent thereto.
