under the

Legal Profession Act 1987

I, Robert John Debus, Attorney General, in pursuance of section 48O of the Legal Profession Act 1987 (the Act) do, by this my Order, declare the Legal Practitioners Act of the Northern Territory to be a corresponding law for the purposes of Part 3B of the Act.

Dated this 27th day of December 2000.

BOB DEBUS, M.P.,

Attorney General

Explanatory Note

Section 48O of the Legal Profession Act 1987 provides for the Minister to declare a law of another State relating to the regulation of legal practice to be a corresponding law for the purposes of Part 3B of the Act. State is defined in the Act to include the Australian Capital Territory or the Northern Territory. The purpose of this Order is to declare the Legal Practitioners Act of the Northern Territory to be such a corresponding law.

This declaration enables individuals who are authorised to practise law in one State to practise law in an equivalent way in all other States participating in the national practising certificate scheme to which Part 3B relates.
