LEGAL PROFESSION ACT 1987—ORDER

I, JEFFREY WILLIAM SHAW, Attorney General, in pursuance of section 48O of the Legal Profession Act 1987 (the Act), do, by this my Order, with effect on and from 1 July 1997, declare Part XVA of the Legal Practitioners Act 1970 of the Australian Capital Territory to be a corresponding law for the purposes of Part 3B of the Act.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

Section 48O of the Legal Profession Act 1987 provides for the Minister to declare a law of another State relating to the regulation of legal practice to be a corresponding law for the purposes of Part 3B of the Act. The purpose of this Order is to declare Part XVA of the Legal P ractitioners Act 1970 of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT Act) to be such a corresponding law.

This declaration enables individuals who are authorised to practise law in one State to practise law in an equivalent way in all other States participating in the national practising certificate scheme to which Part 3B relates.
