An Ordinance to amend the Legal Aid Ordinance 1977

I, T H E GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following

Ordinance under the Seat of Government (Administration) Act 1910.

LEGAL AID ( A M E N D M E N T ) O R D I N A N C E 1980

Short title

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Legal Aid (Amendment) Ordinance

1980.1

Principal Ordinance

2. In this Ordinance, "Principal Ordinance" means the Legal Aid

Ordinance 1977.2

Commencement

3. This Ordinance shall come into operation on 30 June 1980.

4. After section 32 of the Principal Ordinance the following section is

inserted:

Prohibition of additional payments to private practitioners

" 3 2 A . Where a private legal practitioner performs, or has performed, legal

services on behalf of a legally assisted person he shall not demand, take or accept payment for performing the services in respect of which the legally as­ sisted person is receiving, or has received, legal assistance under this Ordinance other than the payment or payments to which he is entitled under this

Certain provisions of Legal Practitioners Ordinance not to apply to officers of

Commission

5. Section 69 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting "Part

VIII, IX or X " and substituting "Part VI, VIII, IX or X".
