An Act to abolish actions for damages for loss of consortium.

1Name of Act

This Act may be cited as the Law Reform (Marital Consortium) Act 1984.

2Commencement(1)

Sections 1 and 2 shall commence on the date of assent to this Act.

(2)

Except as provided by subsection (1), this Act shall commence on such day as may be appointed by the Governor in respect thereof and as may be notified by proclamation published in the Gazette.

3Abolition of action for loss or deprivation of consortium(1)

A person is not liable for damages in tort on the ground that the negligence, or other act or omission, of the person caused loss or impairment of the consortium of a husband and wife.

(2)

Nothing in subsection (1) applies to causes of action accrued before the commencement of this section.
