His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Law Enforcement and National Security (Assumed Identities) Act 1998.

The object of this Regulation is to prescribe the officer who is to be the chief executive officer of an agency that has been prescribed to be an authorised agency for the purposes of the Law Enforcement and National Security (Assumed Identities) Act 1998. The relevant agencies are:

(a) the Australian Federal Police,
(b) the National Crime Authority,
(c) the Australian Security Intelligence Organization,
(d) the Australian Secret Intelligence Service,
(e) the Australian Customs Service.

This Regulation is made under the Law Enforcement and National Security (Assumed Identities) Act 1998, in particular sections 3 (definition of chief executive officer) and 19 (the general regulation-making power).

Clause 5

Insert after clause 5:

Chief executive officers of certain authorise

An officer referred to in one of the following paragraphs is prescribed as the chief executive officer of the authorised agency referred to in the same paragraph for the purposes of paragraph (e) of the definition of chief executive officer in section 3 of the Act:

in respect of the Australian Federal Police—the

Commissioner of Police,

in respect of the National Crime Authority—the

Chairperson of that Authority,

in respect of the Australian Security Intelligence

Organization—the Director-General of Security,

in respect of the Australian Secret Intelligence

Service—the Director-General of that Service,

in respect of the Australian Customs Service—the
Chief Executive Officer of Customs.
