An Ordinance to limit the number of Per- sons required to act as a Grand Jury in remote Districts of the Colony of Western Australia.

HEREAS by the first section of the Ordinance 9th Victoria,

lawful for any number of persons not less than five, nor more than

" No. 5, it is enacted, among other things, that it shall be

thirteen, to be sworn to act as a Grand Jury in the Courts men-

tioned in such Ordinance, and that such persons so acting as a

Grand Jury shall halve the same powers, and shall be subject to the same rules and forms, as any Grand Jury in the the Court . of Gene- ral and Quarter Sessions of the Peace for this Colony ; and whereas doubts have arisen on the construction of the said section, and it is expedient to remove such doubts ;—Be it therefore enacted, by His Excellency the Governor of Western , Australia and its Dependencies, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, that it shall be lawful at any time hereafter for any number of per- sons not less than five to be sworn and to act as a Grand Jury, under the provisions of the said Ordinance, without regard to any question of the possibility or otherwise of procuring the attendance of any greater number.
