Citation

1. These regulations may be cited as the Juries Act (Scale of Remuneration for Jury Service)

Regulations, 1989.

Commencement

2. These regulations will come into operation on 1 January 1989.

Revocation

3. The Juries Act (Scale of Remuneration for Jury Service) Regulations, 1988 (see Gazette, 1

December, 1988, p. 1885) are revoked.

Interpretation

4. In these regulations, unless the contrary intention appears—

"the Act" means the Juries Act, 1927.

Payment of Jurors

5. (1) Subject to subregulation (2), the following scale of fees for jury service is prescribed

pursuant to section 70 of the Act:

$

(a)

for each day of attendance at the court—

(i)

for attendance where a juror suffers no monetary loss

20.00;

or

(ii)

where the sheriff is satisfied that a juror has suffered monetary loss in excess of $20.00 in relation to attendance in compliance with the summons, a sum

equal to the amount lost, up to

(b)

for necessary expenditures—

where the sheriff is satisfied that a juror has necessarily incurred

expenditure in relation to an attendance in compliance with the

summons, a sum equal to the expenditure, up to

(c)

for travelling expenses—

for each kilometre necessarily travelled to and from the court

and the residence of the juror, for each day of attendance in

compliance with the summons
