Judicial and Statutory Officers (Remuneration and Allowances) Regulations 2(Amendment)

I, The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, make the following Regulations under the Judicial and Statutory Officers (Remuneration and Allowances) Act 1984.

1.   Commencement

1.1   These Regulations are taken to have commenced on 30 April 1996.

2.   Amendment

2.1   The Judicial and Statutory Officers (Remuneration and Allowances) Regulations are amended as set out in these Regulations.

3.   Regulation 2 (Remuneration of officer appointed Australian Electoral Commissioner)

3.1   Omit the regulation, substitute:

Remuneration of officer appointed Australian Electoral Commissioner

 “2.If a person appointed to hold the office of Australian Electoral Commissioner:

  • (a)

    was, immediately before the appointment, an unattached officer of the Australian Public Service; and

  • (b)

    was, immediately before becoming an unattached officer, Secretary to the Department of Aboriginal Affairs;

the person is to be paid, for the period of the appointment (including any period of re-appointment) to the office of Australian Electoral Commissioner, instead of the remuneration otherwise payable in respect of that office, remuneration as follows:

  • (c)

    for the period from 30 April 1996 to 16 October 1996 (inclusive)—$129,333 a year; and

  • (d)

    for the period from 17 October 1996 to 1 January 1997 (inclusive)—$131,920 a year; and

  • (e)

    for the period beginning on 2 January 1997—$132,600 a year.”.

4.   Regulation 3 (Remuneration of officer appointed Director of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare)

4.1   Omit the regulation, substitute:

Remuneration of officer appointed Director of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare

 “3. If a person appointed to hold the office of Director of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare was, immediately before the appointment, an officer of the Australian Public Service having a classification of Senior Executive Band 3, the person is to be paid, for the period of the appointment (including any period of re-appointment) to that office that begins on 17 October 1996, instead of the remuneration otherwise payable in respect of that office, remuneration at the rate of $120,193 a year.”.
