AN ACT to amend the Insurance Companies Act, 1918.

[Assented to 15th December, 1923.]

BE it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, byCouncil and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia,and with the advice and consent of the Legislative

in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority

of the same, as follows :—

1.    This Act may be cited as the Insurance Companies Short title.

Act Amendment Act, 1923, and shall be read as one with the Insurance Companies Act, 1918, hereinafter referred to as the principal Act.

2.

A section is added to the principal Act and shall Extension of Act

to certain brokers

have effect, as follows :—

7. If any contract of insurance (except life assurance) is effected by an insurance company established elsewhere than in Western Australia, and the contract is negotiated on behalf of such company by a broker, agent, or other person in Western Aus- tralia, such broker, agent, or other person shall be deemed to be a person who carries on insurance business within Western Australia, and an " insurance com- pany " within the meaning of this Act, unless the insurance company on whose behalf the contract is negotiated has complied with the requirements of Section three of this Act.
