B E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- PART I.-PRELIMINARY. PART 1.- PRELIMINARY 1. This Act may be cited as " The Insurance Acts Short title. Amendment Act of 1934." 2. This Act is divided into Parts, as follows: - Pm ts () APt. The Principal Act is amended, as follows :- Amend- ments of the Principal Act. Amendment (i.) Section 7A of the Principal Act is amended, as of s. 7A. follows : - New subsection lA. (a) A new subsection lA IS inserted after subsection one thereof, namely:- "(lA.) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in subsection one of this section, but subject as is hereinafter provided, any company approved by the Governor in Council in that behalf may commence to transact life assurance business within Queensland and to carry on such business within Queensland notwith- standing that such company is not a company in which the net profits from time to time earned by the company are by the constitution of the company exclusively divisible amongst the policy-holders of the company: Provided no such company approved by the Governor in Council as aforesaid shall commence to transact or shall carry on life assurance business within Queensland unless or until such company has received from the Treasurer a license in the prescribed form to carry on life assurance business in Queensland, which license the Treasurer, subject to the provisions of this Act, may grant: Provided further, that no such license shall be granted unless the applicant shall have first complied with the provisions of subsection three of this section: And, moreover, all of the provisions of "The Life Assurance Companies- Acts, 1901 to 1934," shall, so far as may be applicable, mutatis mutandis, extend and apply to any such company referred to in this subsection." (b) Subsection three of the said section 7 A is amended as follows :-- In the first paragraph the words " the sum of fifty pounds, to be applied in the same way as penalties are required to be applied under section fifty-one of this Act, and by" are repealed. Provision (a), being all words from the words "Duplicate receipt" to the words "this Act; and," inclusive, is repealed and provisions (b), (c), and (d) are relettered (a), (b), and (c) accordingly.

In subsection one of section eleven of the Amendment Principal Act the paragraph (a), being all words from of s. ll. the words "Duplicate receipt" to the words "the applicant," inclusive, is repealed, and paragraphs (b), (c), and (d) are relettered (a), (b), and (c) accordingly. 7.
