Inspection of Machinery, Etc., Act. 163 exemption granted by it before the passing of this Act in relation to that scheme, but unless so confirmed any and every exemption in relation to such a scheme granted before the passing of this Act shall be deemed to be and to have always been void. * 8. The fourth paragraph (being the paragraph Amendment commencing with the words “In the event”) 0fofs-50<2>- subsection two of section fifty of the Principal Act is amended— (а) By inserting, after the words “ earned by him or them ”, the words “ or payable to him or them in respect of any holiday or leave by way of annual holidays, sick leave or long service leave ” ; and (б) By inserting, after the words “ during any period of employment ” the words “ or, if payable in respect of any holiday or leave as aforesaid, which have become due ”. 9. Subsection two of section seventy-six of the Principal Act is amended by repealing the words0 8‘ “ Director of Labour ” and by inserting, in lieu of those repealed words, the words “ Chief Inspector of Factories and Shops ”. E it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, B by and with the advice and consent of the Legis­ lative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:— 1. This Act may be cited as The Inspection o/^^tWe Machinery Act Amendment Act of 1954 ” and shall be Auction, read as one with *“ The Inspection of Machinery Act of 1951 ” herein referred to as the Principal Act. The Principal Act and this Act may be cited ^eotlr collectively as The Inspection of Machinery Acts, 1951 1 e‘ to 1954.” * 15 G. 6 No. 33.

The definition of the term “ motor vehicle ” in of s. 7. subsection one of section seven of the Principal Act is amended by inserting after the words “ steam traction engine” the words “ or diesel locomotive or diesel traction engine or electric locomotive or electric traction engine”. New s. 55 a . 3. The following section is inserted after section fifty-five of the Principal Act:— Interim certificates. “ [55 a .] Upon being satisfied— (а) That a holder of an appropriate certificate of competency under this Act is not available to take charge of any engine or boiler or other machinery, to and with respect to which section fifteen of this Act applies; and (б) That a person of good repute who is not the holder of such a certificate is nevertheless capable of taking charge of that machinery when it is under working conditions and is available so to do, the Board or the Chief Inspector upon payment of the prescribed fee may, and is hereby empowered to, grant to that person an interim certificate authorising him to take charge of that machinery when it is under working conditions. Such a certificate shall be in force for the period specified therein (which period may be extended from time to time) but no such certificate shall be granted or extended so as to be in force for longer than twelve months. A certificate under this section shall, while it remains in force, be deemed for the purposes of this Act to be a certificate of competency appropriate according to the tenor thereof in respect of the machinery specified therein but not in respect of any other machinery. If the holder of a certificate under this section shall have failed to sit for the examination prescribed in respect of the appropriate certificate of competency under this Act during the currency of that certificate, regard shall be had to that fact in considering any subsequent application for the grant to him of another certificate under this section.” Amendment 4. Section sixty-four of the Principal Act is amended of s. 64. by adding after the word “ Minister ” in subsection three, the words “ or the Chief Inspector ”.

Rule eight of the Second Schedule to the Principal ^egd^ent Act is amended by adding the following paragraph to second subrule one thereof:— Schedule. “An applicant who desires an engineer’s certificate authorising him to drive and have charge of internal combustion engines or refrigeration machinery or both of them shall also satisfy the Board that he has had adequate experience of internal combustion engines or refrigeration machinery or, as the case requires, both of them.” An Act to Amend “ The Inspection of Scaffolding 3 J E fO m . z 1 . 2 I . This Act may be cited as The Inspection of title Scaffolding Acts Amendment Act of 1954,” and shall be construction ’ read as one with *“ The Inspection of Scaffolding Acts, 1915 to 1951,” herein referred to as the Principal Act. The Principal Act and this Act may be cited ^ective collectively as The Inspection of Scaffolding Acts, 1915 to 1954.” 2. Section three of the Principal Act is amended O A I m 9 . en 3 d . ment as follows:— (a) The following definition is inserted after the definition of the term “ Building Work ” :— ““ Chief Inspector ” includes a person occupying or performing for the time being the duties of the office of Chief Inspector.” ( b) The definition of the term “ Place ” is amended by adding thereto the words “or, whilst under construction or repair, any ship or boat ”. (c) The definition of “ Scaffolding ” is amended by inserting therein after the words “ in connection with ”, where those words first appear in that definition, the words and commas “ , or for the protection of workmen employed in, ”. * 6 G. 5 No. 25 and amending Acts.
