INFANT LIFE PROTECTION [ASSENTED TO 17TH OCTOBER, 1935.] ACTS AMENDMENT B ACT OF 1935. E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative A.ssembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows;- Short tit] . 1. This Act may be cited as "The Infant Life Protection Acts Amendment Act of 1935," and shall be read as one with *" The Infant Life Protection Acts, 1905 to 1927," herein referred to as the Principal Act. Collective The Principal Act and this Act may collectively be title. referred to as "The lnfant Life Protection Acts, 1905 to 1935." Amendment 2. Subsection one of section six of the Principal of s. 6 (I). Act is hereby repealed and the following new subsection one is inserted in lieu thereof :- " (1.) Subject to this Act, no person shall retain in or receive into his care or charge any infant under the age of six years for the purpose of nursing or maintaining such infant apart from its parents for a longer period than forty-eight hours unless such person is registered as the occupier of a house, and such house is also registered as a nursing home under this Act." Amendment 3. Subsection two of section nine of the Principal of s. 9 (2). Act is amended by deleting therefrom the word " three" and by inserting in lieu thereof the word " six." Repeal of 11. 15. 4. Section fifteen of the Principal Act is hereby repealed: Provided that the repeal of the said section shall take effect on a date to be fixed by the Governor in Council by Proclamation published in the Gazette. * 5 Edw. Subsection one of section sixteen of the Principal Afme~~; ft Act is hereby repealed and the following new subsection 0 s. . one is inserted in lieu thereof :- " (1.) All remedies against the father of an illegitimate child are extended to the recovery of- (a) Any sum not exceeding twenty pounds for confinement expenses. "Confinement ex- penses " includes, whether the child is born alive or dead, reasonable medical and nursing expenses attendant upon the confinement of the mother and the cost of her board and lodging and the clothing necessary for the child for two months after its birth; and (b) The reasonable expenses of the burial of the mother in case of her death at or in con- sequence of her pregnancy, or at or in consequence of the birth of the child; and (c) The reasonable expenses of the burial of the child if *he dies before the making of the [*Sic in affiliat I·on order". sGeamzbeltete': · it."] 6. Section seventeen of the Principal Act is amended Amenwnents as follows :_ of B. 17. (i.) In subsection two of the said section the word " five," where it twice occurs, is deleted, and in each such case the word " six " is inserted in lieu thereof. (ii.) Subsection eight of the said section is repealed and the following new subsection eight is inserted in lieu thereof:- " (8.) Any person who knowingly fails to inform the occupier of any house or place in which an illegitimate child is born, or in which an illegitimate child under the age of six years dies, that such child is illegitimate shall be guilty of an offence against this Act." (iii.) The following new subsection nine is added to the said section:- " (9.) Any district registrar, assistant district registrar, or officer of police who receives notice as aforesaid of the birth or death of an illegitimate child shall forthwith notify the Director in writing of the . receipt by him of such notice together with tlie particulars thereof." 7. Section eighteen of the Principal Act is Amendment amended by deleting from paragraph (a) thereof the oh. 18. word "three" and by inserting in lieu thereof the word "six."
