No. IV.

An Act to amend the Indus t r ia l Schools Act

of 1866. [17th October, 1870.]

W H E R E A S t h a t it shall no t be lawful to send male and female chi ldren
it is provided by the Indus t r i a l Schools A c t of 1866

to t h e same I n d u s t r i a l School A n d whereas by reason of a consider­ able n u m b e r of boys of tender age hav ing been ordered to be sent to some Indus t r i a l School in pu r suance of t h e said A c t it is considered expedien t to place t h e m in charge of elder female chi ldren in t he F e m a l e Indus t r i a l Schools and of t h e Super in tenden t or M a t r o n thereof un t i l t hey shal l become of sufficient age to be removed to a Male Indus t r i a l School Be i t therefore enacted by t h e Queen ' s Mos t Exce l len t Majesty by and wi th t h e advice a n d consent of t he Legis­ lat ive Counci l and Legislat ive Assembly of N e w South Wales in Pa r l i amen t assembled and by the au tho r i t y of t h e same as follows :—

1. I t shal l be lawful for t h e Colonial Secretary to direct any
male child unde r t he age of six years who shall have been ordered

to be sent to an I n d u s t r i a l School to be placed in t h e charge of t he

Super in t enden t or. M a t r o n of any F e m a l e Indus t r i a l School the re to

l)c deta ined for such t i m e as t he Colonial Secretary may t h i n k desirable or u n t i l such boy shall have reached t h e age of seven years and af terwards to cause such boy to be removed to a Male I n d u s t r i a l School to be detained the re in or in some other Male Indus t r i a l School in accordance wi th t he provisions of t h e said A c t A n d every such boy whils t i n such F e m a l e I n d u s t r i a l School shall be subject to all the regula t ions for t he government thereof so far as t h e same m a y be applicable to t h e m or as shall from t ime to t ime be made by the Governor wi th t he advice of t he Execu t ive Council for the i r custody
