of the Purlianlcnt of South Australia, as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as ' c The Indecent Advertisements Short title.

Act, 1897."

2. I n this Act " indecent advertisement" shall include any Inferpretation-

drawing, picture, or written or printe*l matter of an indecent, irnn~oral, or obscene nature, or which relates to vetlercal or con- tagious diseases :iffecting thc generative orgins or falnctions, or to m y complaint or infiriility arising from 01- relating to sexud intercourse, or which relatcs to female irregularities, General

3, NO person shall-

( a ) Affix or inscribe on any thing whatsoever, so as to be visible to persons being in or passing along ally street, mad, highway, pathway, or public place:

( B ) Deliver, or attempt to deliver, or exhibit, to any person

being in or passing along any street, road, highway,

pathway, or public place:

(c) Throw down the area, or into the yard, garden, or enclosure

of any house:

(d) Exhibit to public view in any house, shop, or place:

( e ) Print or publish in any newspaper:

Sell, offer, distribute, or show-

4, NO person shall give or deliver to any other person any

of indecent advertise-

5. Whenever any postmaster has reason to believe that any newspaper, packet, or parcel posted for transmission by post contains any indecent advertiscrnent, he may cause such newspaper, packet, or parcel to be forwarded to the Minister controlling the Postal Department; and, if the same shall be found to contain any in- decent advertisement, the Minister may cause such newspaper, packet, or parcel, and the contents thereof, to be destroyed.

6, Whosoever shall commit any breach of this Act shall be

guilty of an offence, and shall be liable, on summary conviction, to a penalty of not exceeding Ten Pounds for the first offence, and of not less than Fifty Pounds for any subsequent offence.

7, Penalties under this Act may be recovered before a Special Magistrate or two or more Justices of the Peace, in the manner provided by Act No. 6 of 1850, and the Act or Acts amending the same, or under any other Act that may be law in that behalf.

Exemption of medical

Appeal.

Q. An appeal may be had from any conviction or order dis-

missing any information to the Local Court of Adelaide of Full

Jurisdiction.
