An Act to require the name and place of bzcsiness of the Printer of any

W HEREAS it is desirable to require that the name and place of

abode or business of the printer of any book or paper should be printed on such book or paper lBe it therefore Enacted by the Governor-in-Chief of thr: Province of South Australia, with the advice and consent of the Lt.,~islativc Council and IIouse of Assembly of the said Province, in t b s present Parliament assembled, as follows:

1. Every person who shall print any book or paper whatsoever, ~;;~~;;,",";~t",'a~~

which shall be meant to be published or dispersed, and who and piace of

the same shall be printed on one side only, or upon the first or persons publishing

reward, gain, or profit, shdl carefully preserve a i d keep one copy they print, and write

which he or she shall write, or cause to be written or printed in fair

and

last lcaf of cvesy book or papcr which shall consist of more

than one leaf, in legiFlc characters, his or her name, and usual

place of abode or business; and any person who shall publish, or disperse, or assist in publishing or dispersing any book or paper printed within the said Province, after the passing of this Act, on which the name and place of abode or business of the person printing

the same, shall not be printed as aforesaid, shall, for every copy of

such paper so printed, be liable to a penalty not exceeding Five Pounds, and in default of payment, to he imprisoned with or without

hard labor, for two calendar months.

2. Every person who shall print any book or paper for hire, E;~;FJ;~:;

and legible characters, the name and place of abode of the person or persons by whom he or she shall be employed to print the same, and any person printing any book or paper for hire, reward, gain, or profit, who shall omit or neglkct to write or cmse to be written or printed as aforesaid, the name and place of abode of his or her employer, on one of such printed papers, or to keep or preserve the same for the space of six calendar months next after the printing thereof, shall, for every snch neglect, be liable to a penalty of Twenty Pouncls.

Exceptions.

3. Nothing in this Act contained shall extend to any book or

paper printex by order of either House of Parliament, or to the h-

pression of any engravi~g, or to the printing of the nimnle, address,

business, or profession of any person, or the articles in which snch

to any bank note, or bill of exchange, or

promisssory note of any kind, or security for the payment of money, or any bill of lading, policy of insurance, letter of attorney, deed, or agreement, or any transfer or assignment of any public S toclcs, funds, or securities, or any transfer or assignment of the stocks of any public Corporation or Joint Stock Company sanctioned by or formed.

stocks, funds, or securities, or any receipt for money or goods, or any proceeding in any Court of law or equity, or any warrant, order, or other paper printed by the authority of m y public board or public officer in the exeentidn of the duties of their respective offices.

All proceedings under this Act shall be taken before the nearest

7. All penalties or forfeitures under this Act shall be disposed of

in the following manner, that is to say, one-half to the plaintiff

or prosecutor, and the other halt' to the Treasurer for he public

uses of the said Province.

Definition of printing.

8, The words - " print" or G printing" shall extend to the taking of a copy or copies from types, stones, or plates of any description.
