AN ACT for the prevention of the Importa-

tion of Diseased Stock.

[ Assented to, 1st October, 1879. ]

HEREAS the wealth and prosperity of Her Majesty's sub-

Wof disease among animals; And whereas, as well in order to avertjects in Australasia depend to a great extent on the absence

disaster from Western Australia as through the medium of Western Australia from the other Australasian Colonies, it is desirable to take all possible precautions against the introduction into, and for the repression of disease among animals in, this Colony: Be it enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Western Australia and its Dependencies, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-

Stock Act, 1876," shall apply to all Horse Stock, Goats, Mules,

Asses, Dogs, and Swine.

permit introduction of Cat- enactments, or either of them, the Governor, with the advice of the

Governor may prohibit or2 IN addition to the powers vested in the Governor by the said

tie' Executive Council, may from time to time, by Proclamation, pro- hibit the introduction into the Colony, either by sea or land, of ally cattle within the meaning of this Act, and of the said enactments or either of them, from any country or place ; or may permit such introduction by land to be made at such inland places, or their importation by sea, at such parts of the sea-coast in Western Australia being " ports " within the meaning of the laws of the Customs for the time being, subject to such restrictions and regula- tions as he shall see fit. And the Governor, with such advice, may from time to time vary or annul any such prohibition, restriction, or regulation ; provided such restrictions and regulations shall be published in the Government Gazette.

such regulations under this Act as may be deemed expedient for

all or any of the following purposes, and may rescind the same :—

For the inspection of newly-introduced cattle or animals.

For the purpose of subjecting any such cattle or animals to such restrictions or remedial measures as may be deemed necessary to prevent the introduction and spread of disease.

(4.) For providing for the steps to be taken in case of any infectious or contagious disease of a malignant nature breaking out or spreading in any town or district in the Colony among animals ander circumstances which render it advisable that measures should be promptly taken for securing the health of animals; and also in any case at a distance from Perth which may appear to constitute a case of special emergency, to make an order, published in the Government Gazette, authorising some person or persons to be named in such order to make such orders and give such directions as may seem to him or them necessary under the circumstances of the case. Any such order of the Governor in Council as last aforesaid shall be in force for any period not exceeding one month from the making thereof.

with the provisions of " The Telegraphic Messages Act, 1874," take

effect from the publication thereof by the person authorised thereby

as aforesaid affixing the same to the door of the nearest court house

or police station ; and any order made or direction given by any such

person authorised as aforesaid shall take effect from the time of its

publication in the same manner.

5 THIS Act and the said recited Acts shall be read and con-

disobeying, contravening, or omitting to observe any regulation or read together..

on conviction before any two Justices, be liable to a penalty not

exceeding One hundred pounds.
