An Act to amend the " Imported Stock Act of

1871." [29th August, 1884]

W H E R E A S i t is expedient to amend t h e " Impor t ed Stock Ac t
of 1871 " Be it therefore enacted hy the Queen ' s Mos t
Exce l l en t Majes ty hy and wi th t h e advice and consent of the
Legis la t ive Council and Legis la t ive Assembly of N e w Sou th W a l e s
in P a r l i a m e n t assembled and by t h e au thor i ty of t he same as
follows :—
1. This Act may bo cited as t h e " I m p o r t e d Stock A c t Amend-

.mcnt A c t of 1881 " and shall be read and construed wi th t he " I m p o r t e d Stock Ac t of 1 8 7 1 " hereinafter t e rmed t h e Pr inc ipa l Ac t .

(i.) Eor defining the powers and duties of inspectors of stock Customs officers a n d masters of vessels in regard to impor ted stock „ (II.)
2. Section th i r t een of t he Pr incipal A c t is hereby repealed bu t
wi thou t prejudice to the past operat ion of any regu la t ion made u n d e r
t he au tho r i t y of t he said section.

3 . Eor t h e purposes of t he Pr inc ipa l A c t as amended by this Act t h e t e r m " Stock " shall in addi t ion to cat t le a n d sheep inc lude goats swine dogs and such other animals as t he Governor m a y by any proclamat ion publ ished in t h e Government Gazette declare to be subject to t h e provisions of t he said Acts The t e r m " I m p o r t e d S t o c k " shall include all stock arr iv ing b y sea from any colony or coun t ry whatsoever Provided tha t t h e Governor m a y by proc lamat ion suspend the provisions of any one or more of t h e sections of th is or t he Pr inc ipa l Ac t for any period not exceeding six m o n t h s in respect to any stock in t roduced or proposed to be in t roduced from a n y of the

Aus t ra l ian Colonies.
1. The Governor m a y m a k e regulat ions for car ry ing out t h e

provisions of t he Pr inc ipa l A c t as amended hereby in respect of any of

t he following ma t t e r s or t h ings n a m e l y —

( I I . ) Eor prescribing all certificates or permi ts unde r which

impor ted stock m a y be admi t t ed in to th i s Colony

(III.) Eor t h e m a n a g e m e n t and protect ion of qua ran t ine s tat ions (IV.) Eor the inspect ion and disinfection of all stock fodder

fittings and effects on board any ship b r ing ing stock in to th is
Colony

(v.) E o r the disposal of stock fodder fittings or effects found to

be infected

(VI.) Eor t he t ranspor t of stock fodder fittings or effects to or from

quaran t ine

( v n . ) Eor t he disinfection and dressing of stock while in qua ran ­

t ine

( V I I I . ) Eo r prescribing the dura t ion of quaran t ine and the release.

of stock fodder or effects therefrom

(IX.) Eor fixing the fees and expenses chargeable for t he inspection

t ranspor t keeping and disinfecting of s tock

(X.) A n d in respect of any o ther m a t t e r of detail for more

effectually car ry ing out t h e provisions of t h e said Ac t s

The Governor m a y impose a pena l ty not exceeding tAventy pounds for t h e breach of any regula t ion so m a d e Al l such regula t ions when publ ished in t he Gazette shall haAre t h e full force of law and copies thereof shal l be laid before Pa r l i amen t for thwi th if t hen s i t t ing and if

no t t hen wi th in one m o n t h after t he commencemen t of t he t hen n e x t
session.
