fAN ACT to adopt an Act passed in the eleventh year of and the first year of His Majesty King William the 'Fourth, intituled "An Act to repeal so much of an Act of the sixtieth year of His late Majesty King George the Third for the more effectual prevention and punish- ment of Blasphemous and Seditious Libels, as relates to the Sentence of Banishment for the second Offence, and to provide some further remedy against the abuse of publishing Libels ;" and to render operative such of the Provisions of the following Acts of the Imperial Parlia- ment, as relate to the regulations for the Printing and Publication of Newspapers, and other , Papers of a like nature, and to the remedies against the abuse of publish- ing Libels.—viz., An Act of Parliament passed in the 38th year of the reign of His Majesty King George the Third, intitulecl " An Act for preventing the Mischiefs arising from the printing and publishing Newspapers, -and Papers of 'a like nature, by persons not known, and

the Reign of His late Majesty King George the Fourth,

for regulating the printing and publication of such Papers in other respects ;" and An Act of Parliament passed in the sixtieth year of the reign of King George the Third, and the first year of the reign of King George the Fourth, intituled " An Act for the more effectual prevention and punishment of Blasphemous and Seditious Libels; and An Act, passed in the sixtieth year of the reign of King George the Third, and the first year of the reign of King George the Fourth, intituled " An Act to subject certain Publications to the Duties of Stamps upon Newspapers, and to make other regulations for restraining the Abuses arising from the Publication of Blasphemous and Seditious Libels."1

Preamble.

IITHEREAS an Act of Parliament has been passed in the

V V eleventh year of the reign of His late Majesty King George

Act of 11th Geo. 4, c 1st the Fourth, and the first year of His Majesty King William the

Fourth, intituled " An Act to repeal so much of an Act of the sixtieth year of His Majesty King George the Third, and the first year of His late Majesty King George the Fourth, for the more effectual prevention and punishment of Blasphemous and Seditious Libels, as relates to_ the sentence of Banishment for the second

Expedient to adopt said Act. Offence, and to provide some further remedy against -the abuse of

publishing Libels ;" and whereas it is expedient that the said Act shall be adopted in this Colony ;—Be it therefore enacted, by His Excellency the Governor of Western Australia and its Dependencies, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council

Said Act adopted. thereof, that the said Act shall be adopted, and that the several

enactments, clauses and provisions thereof, except as hereinafter mentioned, shall be applied, and put in force in the same manner as any other Act of Parliament may be applied, and put in force in the Colony aforesaid.

AND whereas the amount of the Recognizance required by the second section of the aforesaid Act appears to be excessive as compared with the circumstances of this Colony, and it is expedient to reduce the same; Be it therefore enacted, that the amount of the said Recognizance shall be limited to the sum of Two Hundred Pounds for the Principal, and a like sum for the Sureties in the

expedient to carry into effect, in this Colony, such of the provisions

of the above-mentioned Acts as relate to the regulations for the prin-

ting and publication of Newspapers, and other Papers of a like

nature, and also to the remedies against the abuse of publishing

Libels ; and whereas it is essential, for the purpose of effecting such

object, to nominate and appoint certain Officers in lieu of those

mentioned in any of the said Acts as holding Offices not existing in

this Colony ;—Be it therefore enacted, that any Act, Matter or
