An Act to enable the Government to raise a Loan for the purposes of Voluntary and Assisted Immigrat ion. [10th May, 1861.]

W H E R E A S it is expedient to au thor ize t he Gove rnmen t to borrow

t h e sum of Fifty-five thousand pounds for p romot ing Volun ta ry

and Assisted I m m i g r a t i o n to th is Colony Be it therefore enacted by

t h e Queen ' s Most Exce l len t Majesty by and wi th t h e advice a n d con­ sent of t h e Legislat ive Counci l and Legislat ive Assembly of New Sou th W a l e s in P a r l i a m e n t assembled and by t h e au thor i ty of t h e same as follows :—

1 . I t shall be lawful for t he Governor wi th t h e advice of t he

Execu t ive Counci l to raise by t h e sale of Deben tures secured upon the

Consolidated R e v e n u e F u n d of the Colony and bear ing in teres t at a

r a t e no t exceeding five per c e n t u m per a n n u m any sum or sums of

money n o t exceeding in t h e whole t h e s u m of fifty thousand pounds

as m a y be requ i red for p romot ing Assis ted I m m i g r a t i o n to th i s Colony.

2. I t shal l fur ther be lawful for t he Governor w i th t h e advice

of t h e Execu t i ve Counci l to raise by t h e sale of Deben tu res secured

u p o n t h e Consolidated R e v e n u e F u n d of t h e Colony a n d bear ing

in te res t a t a r a t e no t exceeding five per c e n t u m per a n n u m any s u m or sums of money n o t exceeding in t h e whole the s u m of five t housand pounds to provide for t h e Salaries and Travel l ing Expenses of Emig ra ­ t ion A g e n t s and Lec tu re r s in Great Br i t a in a n d I r e l a n d and to defray

t h e expenses of P r i n t i n g for c i rculat ion in a cheap and popu la r form

t h r o u g h o u t t h e U n i t e d K i n g d o m copies of L a n d Ac t s and other

t r u s t w o r t h y informat ion re la t ing to th is Colony.

3 . The Treasurer of t h e said Colony shall issue and pay the said sums to such persons for the purposes hereinbefore men t ioned upon such days and in such propor t ions as t h e Governor by any w a r r a n t or order in wr i t i ng u n d e r his h a n d a n d directed to t h e said Treasure r shal l from t ime to t ime order and direct and t h e paymen t s so to be made shal l be charged upon and payable out of t h e sum or sums so borrowed as aforesaid.

4. The said Treasurer shal l in his Accoun t s from t ime to t i m e b e allowed credit for any s u m or sums of money paid by h i m in p u r s u a n c e of such war ran t or order in wr i t ing as aforesaid and the receipt or receipts of t h e respective persons to w h o m the same shall be so pa id shall be a full and valid discharge to t he said Treasurer in pass ing his said Accoun t s for any such sum or sums as shall be the re in

ment ioned and he shall receive credit for t he same a c c o r d i n g - .
