ENGLISH COURSES AND CITIZENSHIP COURSES HELD FOR HOLDERS OF CERTAIN TEMPORARY VISAS

(SUBPARAGRAPHS 4(b)(ii) AND 4(c)(ii))

I, KEVIN ANDREWS, Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, acting under subparagraphs 4(b)(ii) and 4(c)(ii) of the Immigration (Education) Act 1971 (‘the Act’):

1. REVOKE Instrument number IMMI 06/030, signed on 30 June 2006, specifying temporary visas for the purposes of subparagraphs 4(b)(ii) and 4(c)(ii) of the Act; AND

2. SPECIFY, for the purposes of subparagraphs 4(b)(ii) and 4(c)(ii) of the Act, the following classes of temporary visas:

(a)Business Skills (Provisional) (Class UR);

(b)Interdependency (Provisional) (Class UG);

(c)Partner (Provisional) (Class UF);

(d)Partner (Temporary) (Class UK);

(e)Resolution of Status (Temporary) (Class UH);

(f)Skilled Designated Area Sponsored (Provisional) (Class UZ);

(g)Skilled Independent Regional (Provisional) (Class UX);

(h)Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Subclass 475);

(i)Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Subclass 487).

This Instrument, IMMI 07/061, commences on 1 September 2007.

NOTE 2: Subparagraph 4(b)(ii) of the Act provides the Minister may arrange for English courses and citizenship courses to be provided in Australia for persons who hold a temporary visa of a class specified by the Minister by notice published in the Gazette.

NOTE 3: Subparagraph 4(c)(ii) of the Act provides the Minister may arrange for English courses and citizenship courses to be provided in the Territory of Cocos (Keeling) Islands or in the Territory of Christmas Island for persons in the Territory concerned who hold a temporary visa of a class specified by the Minister by notice published in the Gazette.]
