HUME DAM HYDRO-ELECTRIC DEVELOPMENT

(CONSTRUCTION) ACT.

Act No. 2 , 1950 .

An Act to sanction the construction of hydro­ electric works at Hume Dam on the Murray River with transmission lines and necessary subsidiary works for the distribution of elec­ tricity therefrom; to amend the Southern Electricity (Administration) Act, 1942, and certain other Acts; and for purposes con­ nected therewith. [Assented to, 24th March, 1950.]

BE it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, lative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South by and with the advice and consent of the Legis­

Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :—

1. This Act may be cited as the "Hume Dam Hydro­ electric Development (Construction) Act, 1950."

2 . (1) (a) The carrying out of the work described in the Schedule to this Act is hereby sanctioned.

(b) The said work shall be deemed to be an authorised work within the meaning of the Public Works Act, 1912, as amended by subsequent Acts.

shall apply to and in respect of the said work.

(c) The Minister for Public Works is

empowered to carry out the said work and shall be the constructing authority for the same within the meaning of the said Act, as so amended, and shall enter into such contracts and take all such necessary steps for the proper execution thereof as such authority may think proper.

(d) The provisions of the Public Works Act,

1912, as amended by subsequent Acts, sections thirty-

(2) Without prejudice to the generality of subsec­ tion one of this section, the provisions of section thirty- eight of the Public Works Act, 1912, as amended by subsequent Acts, shall apply to and in respect of any contracts referred to in paragraph (c) of subsection one of this section.

3 . The plan of the said work is the plan marked "Hume Hydro-electric Construction" signed by the Minister for Public Works and countersigned by the Chief Engineer, Department of Public Works, and deposited in the public office of the said Minister.

4. The cost of carrying out the said work (exclusive of land resumptions) is estimated at three million one hundred thousand pounds and such estimated cost shall not in any circumstances be exceeded by more than ten per centum.

5 . (1) The Southern Electricity (Administration)

Act, 1942, as amended by subsequent Acts, is amended—

(a) by inserting next after paragraph (f2) of section six the following new paragraph:—

(f3) the works constructed pursuant to the Hume Dam Hydro-electric Development (Construction) Act, 1950;

(b)

by inserting at the end of subsection four of section seven the words—

" o r with the Government of any State of

the Commonwealth of Australia or with
any person authorised by such Govern­ ment in that behalf for the supply of electricity to or within that S ta te ."

(2) The Southern Electricity (Administration) Act, 1942, as amended by subsequent Acts and by this Act, may be cited as the Southern Electricity (Administration) Act, 1942-1950.

SCHEDULE.

SCHEDULE.

A hydro-electric power station having a maximum capacity of

plant, equipment, buildings (including staS quarters and residences),
substations, high-tension transmission lines and such other works
as may be deemed necessary for the efficient establishment and
operation of such power station; high-tension transmission lines from
such power station to Albury, from Albury to Wagga Wagga and
thence to Burrinjuck Dam, and from such power station to a point
(to be agreed upon between the Minister for Public Works and the

about 75,000 kilowatts at the Hume Dam, together with all necessary ' line of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria; substations at Hume Dam, Wagga Wagga, Burrinjuck and at such other places as the Minister for Public Works may deem necessary for or in connec- tion with any of the aforesaid high-tension transmission lines.

The works to be subject to such modifications and deviations as

the Minister for Public Works may deem necessary.
