Regulations under the Canberra Community Hospital
Ordinance 1938-1959.*

HOSPITAL BOARD ELECTION REGULATIONS.
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Hospital Board Election citation.

2. The Hospital Board Election Regulations (comprising Regulations Repeal.
1941, Nos. 1 and 7; 1951, No. 4; and 1957, No. 3) are repealed.

(a) regulation 4 of the Advisory Council Election Regulations g ^ S o n t -

Board as if—(i) the figures and words " 72A and 72B, paragraph (c) of section 73, section 76," were inserted after the figures " 71 "; and
(ii) the figures ", 81 " were inserted after the figures

(b) regulations 25, 30 and 31, sub-regulation (3.) of regulation 36,
and regulations 37 and 38 of, and Forms 8 and 9 in the Schedule to, the Advisory Council Election Regulations do not apply to an election of members of the Board;

(i) the word " eight " in paragraph (ba) of sub-regulation (1.) were omitted and the word " f ive" inserted in its stead; and
(ii) the word "e igh th" in sub-regulations (1A. ) and ( 1 B . ) were omitted and the word " fifth " inserted in its
stead;
(d) a reference in those provisions to a ballot-paper shall be read as a reference to a ballot-paper in accordance with the form prescribed in Form 1 or 2 in the Schedule to these Regula- tions, as the case requires.
Distinguishing 4.—(1.) The Registrar appointed by the Chief Electoral Officer undefl placedonRoii. t n e Australian Capital Territory Electoral Regulations to keep the roll for the Territory shall cause a distinguishing mark to be placed against the name of each person on the roll who is resident in the Territory accepted by the Commonwealth in pursuance of the Jervis Bay Territory Acceptance Act 1915-1955 in order to indicate that the person is not entitled to vote at an election of members of the Board.
(2.) A name against which a mark has been placed in accordance with the last preceding sub-regulation shall, for the purposes of an elec- tion of members of the Board, be deemed to have been omitted from the roll.

5. The dates fixed for the nominations and the polling in connexion with an election of members of the Board shall be the same dates respec- tively as those which have been appointed by the Minister of State for the Interior for the purposes of an Advisory Council election.

(2.) A postal vote certificate in accordance with Form 7 in the Schedule to the Advisory Council Election Regulations in their application to and in relation to an election of members of the Board issued to a person in relation to an election of members of the Advisory Council shall, if the person is also entitled to vote at the election of members of the Board on the same day as an election of members of the Advisory Council, be deemed to be a postal vote certificate in relation to the elections of members of the Board.

8. The forms of ballot-papers to be used in an election shall be in Forms of

9.—(1.) The order in which the names of candidates shall be printed order of

| (2.) The Returning Officer shall, at the place of nomination, imme- diately after the close of nominations and before all persons present-—• |
(a) make out in respect of each candidate a slip bearing the name
of the candidate;
(b) enclose the respective slips in separate blank envelopes of exact
similarity; and
(c) deposit the several envelopes in a locked ballot-box.
(3.) The Returning Officer shall then shake and rotate the ballot-box
id permit any other person present, if he so desires, to shake and rotate
the ballot-box.
(4.) The ballot-box shall then be unlocked and an officer of the Com- monwealth Public Service, other than the Returning Officer, shall take out and open the envelopes one by one,
(5.) The name of the candidate appearing on the slip enclosed in the envelope first taken from the ballot-box shall be placed first on the ballot- papers; the name of the candidate appearing on the slip enclosed in the envelope next taken from the ballot-box shall be placed next on the ballot- papers, and so on until the placing of the names of all the candidates has been determined.
(6.) Where a similarity in the names of two or more candidates is likely to cause confusion, the names of the candidates may be arranged by the Returning Officer with such description or addition as will distinguish them from one another.
(7.) A square shall be printed opposite to the name of each candidate.
10. Where an election is held on the same day as an Advisory Council Declaration by
election, a declaration for the purposes of the Advisory Council election name'has been
made in accordance with Form 10 in the Schedule to the Advisory Council omitted from

Territory accepted by the Commonwealth in pursuance of the Jervis Bay

The elector must not mark his vote on this ballot-paper until after he has first exhibited it (unmarked) to the Authorized Witness.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (and so on, if you so desire) in the squares immediately to the left of
the names of the respective candidates so as to indicate the order- of your preference
