[ASSENTED TO 29TH MARCH, 1961.] B E it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative.Assemblyof Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- Short titla. I. (1.) This Act may be cited as "The Holidays Acts Amendment Act of 1961." Principal .Act. (2.) 10 ELIZ. IL No. 15, 1961. Holidays Acts Amendment Act. 605 2. The Principal Act is amended by inserting after ~ew s. u mserted. section ten the following section :- " [11.] (1.) As from a date to be fixed by the Saturday to Governor in Council by Proclamation published in the tf:i: Gazette, Saturday shall be a bank holiday within the meaning of the BillsofExchangeAct1909-1958 of the Commonwealth, and shall be kept as a close holiday in and by all banks and insurance companies in Queensland. (2.) The Proclamation mentioned in subsection one of this section shall not be made and published in the Gazette until the Governor in Council is satisfied that arrangements which will operate generally throughout the State have been made and will be carried out for keeping banks open until five o'clock in the afternoon of every Friday which is not a holiday mentioned in the Schedule to this Act or a holiday or part holiday .appointed in pursuance of section five of this Act. (3.) If after the Proclamation mentioned in subsection one of this section has been made and. published in the Gazette, arrangements as mentioned in subsection two of this section cease to operate, the Governor in Council may, by Proclamation published in the Gazette, declare that, as from the date specified by such Proclamation, Saturday shall cease to be a bank holiday within the meaning of the BillsofExchangeAct1909-1958 of the Commonwealth. (4.) Where a bank or an insurance company contravenes this section by failing to keep a Saturday as a close holiday any person who authorised, directed or, except as an employee thereunto directed by his employer, otherwise howsoever aided that contravention, shall be liable to a penalty of not more than twenty pounds recoverable summarily under "The Justices Acts, 1886 to 1960."
