An Act to Amend “The Holidays Acts, 1912 to T he H olidays A cts A mend 1935,” in certain particulars. ment A ct op 1954. [A ssented to 6 th D ecember , 1954.] B E it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis lative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:— Short title. Principal Act. Collective title. 1. (1.) This Act may be cited as “ The Holidays Acts Amendment Act of 1954.” (2.) *“The Holidays Acts, 1912 to 1935,” are in this Act referred to as the Principal Act. (3.) The Principal Act and this Act may be collectively referred to as “ The Holidays Acts, 1912 to 1954.” Amendment 2. Section three of the Principal Act is amended of s. 3. by adding thereto the words “ and the expression “ Minister ” means the Secretary for Labour and Industry or other Minister of the Crown for the time being charged with the administration of this Act ”. Amendment 3. Section five of the Principal Act is amended of s. 5. by repealing the words “ Home Secretary ” and by inserting, in lieu of those repealed words, the word “ Minister ”. Amendment 4. Section six of the Principal Act is amended of s. 6. by repealing the words “ Home Secretary ”, where those words twice appear, and by inserting, in lieu of those repealed words wherever repealed, the word “ Minister ”. Amendment 5. Section ten of the Principal Act is renumbered of s. 10. subsection one of section ten and, as so renumbered, that section is further amended by adding thereto the following subsections:— “ (2.) Any and every day or part of a day deemed, pursuant to subsection one of this section, to be such a bank holiday or bank half-holiday shall be kept as a close holiday or half-holiday, as the case may be, in all banks and insurance companies in Queensland. * 3 G. 5 No. 17 and amending Act
HOLIDAYS. 221 1954. Holidays Act Amendment Act. (3.) Where, in pursuance of section six of this Act, another day is appointed to he a holiday mentioned in the Schedule to this Act instead of the day appointed by this Act for that holiday, then that other day (and not the day appointed by this Act) shall be the holiday to which subsections one and two of this section apply save, in the case of New Year’s Day, Anzac Day and Christmas Day, where both the day appointed by this Act and the other day appointed in pursuance of section six of this Act shall be holidays to which subsections one and two of this section apply. (4.) In this section “ insurance companies ” mean those corporations carrying on as principals any class of insurance business. (5.) Where a bank or an insurance company contravenes this section by failing to keep a day or half-day as a close holiday or close half-holiday, as the case may be, any person who authorised, directed or, except as an employee thereunto required by his employer, otherwise howsoever aided that contravention shall be liable to a penalty of not more than twenty pounds recoverable summarily under *uThe Justices Acts, 1886 to 1949”.”. 6.
