HEARD ISLAND AND McDONALD ISLANDS FISHERY TOTAL ALLOWABLE CATCH DETERMINATION 2012

The AUSTRALIAN FISHERIES MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY makes the following Determination pursuant to subsection 17(6)(aa) of the Fisheries Management Act 1991 under section 11 of the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Fishery Management Plan 2002.

Citation

1.   This Determination may be cited as the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Fishery Total Allowable Catch Determination 2012.

Commencement

2.   This Determination commences on the day after it is registered on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments.

Cessation

1. This Determination ceases as if it was revoked on 30 November 2013 unless earlier revoked. 

Interpretation

4.   Terms used in this Determination that are defined for the purposes of the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Fishery Management Plan 2002 have the same meanings in this Determination as they have in that Plan.

Notes:             1.    Terms defined in the Fisheries Management Act 1991 have the same meanings in this Determination.

Determination of total allowable catch

5.   The total allowable catch for target species and catch limits for other species in the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Fishery for the 2012/2013 fishing year commencing on 1 December 2012 and ending on 30 November 2013 are:

Target species:

Patagonian Toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides)    2,730 tonnes

Mackerel Icefish (Champsocephalus gunnari)          679 tonnes

Other Species:

Rat Tails or Grenadiers (Macrourus spp.)                  360 tonnes

Unicorn Icefish (Channichthys rhinoceratus)             150 tonnes

Skates and Rays (Bathyraja spp.)     120 tonnes

Grey Rockcod (Lepidonotothen squamifrons)              80 tonnes

All other species       50 tonnes (for each species)

Revocation of previous Determinations

1. This Determination revokes the following Determinations from the date of commencement:

·Determination No. HIMIF TAC D4- Total Allowable Catch Determination- 2005/2006 Season;

·Determination No. HIMIF TAC D5- Total Allowable Catch Determination- 2006/2007 Season;

·Determination No. HIMIF 2007/2008 TAC D6- Total Allowable Catch Determination- 2007/2008 Season;

·Determination No. HIMIF 2008/2009 TAC D7- Total Allowable Catch Determination- 2008/2009 Season;

·Determination No. HIMIF 2009/2010 TAC D8- Total Allowable Catch Determination- 2009/2010 Season; and

·Determination No. HIMIF 2010/2011 TAC D9 – Determination of Fishing Capacity.

Note: this Determination which regulates total allowable catch in the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Fishery (HIMI) Fishery is additional to the Determination of Trawl Fishing Capacity in the HIMI Fishery 2012.
