Health Insurance Regulations2 (Amendment)

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, make the following Regulations under the Health Insurance Act 1973.

1. Commencement

1.1 These Regulations commence on 1 February 1992.

2. Amendment

2.1 The Health Insurance Regulations are amended as set out in these Regulations.

 

3. Regulation 2 (Interpretation)

3.1 Before the definition of “provider number”, insert:

‘identification number’, in relation to a licensed collection centre, means the identification number allocated to the centre under section 23dnf of the Act;

‘licensed collection centre’ has the same meaning as in Part IIa of the Act;

‘patient episode’ means a pathology service, or pathology services whether listed in 1 or more items in the Pathology Services Table, for a single patient whose need for which was determined under subsection 16a (1) of the Act on the same day, whether rendered by 1 or more approved pathology practitioners on 1 or more days;”.

4 Regulation 2ada (Particulars to be recorded on accounts, receipts and bulk billing agreement)

4.1 After subregulation 2ada (3), insert:

“(3a) For the purposes of subsection 19 (6) of the Act, if the pathology service rendered is initiation of a patient episode by the collection of a specimen at a licensed collection centre, the identification number of the centre is a particular to be recorded.”.
