Health Insurance Regulations2 (Amendment)

I, WILLIAM PATRICK DEANE, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, make the following Regulations under the Health Insurance Act 1973.

1.   Commencement

1.1   These Regulations commence on 1 July 1998.

2.   Amendment

2.1   The Health Insurance Regulations are amended as set out in these Regulations.

3.   New regulations 13A and 13B

3.1   After regulation 13, insert:

Request for payment of medicare benefit

 “13A.For paragraph 20A (2C) (c) of the Act, a request must be in the form approved by the Commission.

Application for approval as billing agent

 “13B.(1) For paragraph 20AB (2) (a) of the Act, an application must be in the form approved by the Council.

 “(2) For paragraph 20AB (2) (b) of the Act, the fee to accompany an application is:

  • (a)

    if the applicant has not previously been approved as a billing agent—$1,000; or

  • (b)

    in any other case—$500.”.
