DECLARATION OF QUALITY ASSURANCE ACTIVITY
UNDER SECTION 124X
QAA No. 3a/2005
I, ANTHONY JOHN ABBOTT, Minister for Health and Ageing, under section 124X of the Health Insurance Act 1973 (the Act):
DECLARE the activities described in the Schedule to this Declaration (the Activities) to be quality assurance activities to which Part VC of the Act applies, being satisfied in relation to the Activities that:
(i) the persons engaging in the Activities are authorised to do so by an educational institution and/or an association of health professionals; and
(ii) it is in the public interest that Part VC of the Act apply to the Activities having regard to the criteria prescribed in regulations 23C to 23G (inclusive) of the Health Insurance Regulations 1975.

Title: Maintenance of Professional Standards Program
Description: The Activity is an assessment or evaluation of the quality of anaesthetist’s clinical standards in order to provide the highest quality of patient care.
2. Persons engaging in activity: The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists
Title: The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists’ Quality and Accreditation Program
Description: The Activity is an assessment or evaluation of the quality of health services provided by radiologists through a documented set of practice standards for diagnostic and interventional radiology and a framework of activity to underpin the requirements of these standards.
3. Persons engaging in activity: Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society
Title: Adult Patient Database and Research Centre for Critical Care Resources Project
Description: The Activity is a study of the incidence or causes of conditions or circumstances that affect the quality and safety performance of Australian and New Zealand intensive care units in the delivery of patient care.
Persons engaging in activity: The Medical Defence Association of Victoria Ltd
Title: Practice Enhancement Programme
Description: The Activity is to identify members of the Medical Defence Association of Victoria Ltd who need assistance in implementing effective risk management and quality assurance strategies in their practices, and to undertake an assessment or evaluation of the quality of health services provided by these medical practitioners to reduce the probability of adverse outcomes resulting from their care and to improve the health and well-being of their patients.
