DECLARATION OF QUALITY ASSURANCE ACTIVITY

UNDER SECTION 124X

QAA No. 3/2003

I, ANTHONY JOHN ABBOTT, Minister for Health and Ageing, under Section 124X of the Health Insurance Act 1973 (the Act):

  1. DECLARE the Activities described in the Schedule (the Activities) to be quality assurance activities to which Part VC of the Act applies being satisfied in relation to the activities  that:

  1. the persons engaging in the Activities are authorised to do so by an association of health professionals at Items 1, 2, 3 and 4;

  2. it is in the public interest that Part VC of the Act apply to the Activities having regard to the criteria prescribed in regulations 23C to 23G (inclusive) of the Health Insurance Regulations 1975.

    DECLARED QUALITY ASSURANCE ACTIVITY TO WHICH PART VC OF THE HEALTH INSURANCE ACT 1973 APPLIES

    Item       Description of Quality Assurance Activity

    1. Persons engaging in activity:      Members of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

    Title:   RANZCP Peer Review Groups.

    Description:   The Activity involves psychiatrists, in small groups:

    ·meeting to present cases from their own work

    ·discussing anxieties about these cases

    ·receiving group feedback, guidance and information on these cases

    to improve their work and their services to their patients.

    2. Persons engaging in activity:      Members of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

    Title:   Facilitating audit and peer review for isolated procedural specialists.

    Description:   The Activity involves facilitating audit and peer review activities for isolated surgeons and procedural specialist ophthalmologists. 

    3.Persons engaging in activity:      Members of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

    Title:The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) Practice Visit Program

    Description:   The Activity involves visits from one psychiatrist to another to assess how well the visited psychiatrist’s practice meets the RANZCP “Guidelines for Outpatient Psychiatric Practice”.

    4.Persons engaging in activity:      Members of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

    Title:   Nuchal Translucency: Ultrasound, Education and Monitoring Program – Continuous Audit       

    Description:   The Activity involves maintaining the ultrasound practitioner’s ability to measure the nuchal translucency through a process of continual audit by comparing current practice with current standards.
