DECLARATION OF QUALITY ASSURANCE ACTIVITY
UNDER SECTION 124X
QAA No. 2/2006
I, ANTHONY JOHN ABBOTT, Minister for Health and Ageing, under section 124X of the Health Insurance Act 1973 (the Act):
DECLARE the activities described in the Schedule to this Declaration (the Activities) to be quality assurance activities to which Part VC of the Act applies, being satisfied in relation to the Activities that:
(i) the persons engaging in the Activities are authorised to do so by an educational institution and/or an association of health professionals; and
(ii) it is in the public interest that Part VC of the Act apply to the Activities having regard to the criteria prescribed in regulations 23C to 23G (inclusive) of the Health Insurance Regulations 1975.

Title: Breast Implant Registry
Description: The Activity is an assessment or evaluation of the performance of breast implants in order to provide the highest quality of patient care.
Persons engaging in activity: The Melbourne Vascular Surgical Association
Title: Melbourne Vascular Surgical Association Audit
Description: The Activity is for the assessment and evaluation of the safety and quality of vascular surgical care with a focus on the rates of adverse events following vascular surgery. The Activity is an extension to a national activity of the Melbourne Vascular Surgical Association Audit previously declared under Section 139 of the Victoria Health Service Act 1988.
Persons engaging in activity: Royal Australian College of Physicians
Title: Maintenance of Professional Standards
Description: The Activity is an assessment or evaluation of the quality of health services provided by Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians. The purpose of the Activity is to ensure the active participation of physicians in continuing education and evaluation of the quality of their practice by completing Physician Assessment and Practice Quality Review components.

Title: Practice Accreditation Program
Description: The Activity is an assessment or evaluation of the quality of health services. The purpose of the Activity is to maintain and enhance the quality of nuclear medicine services in Australia by accrediting participating nuclear medicine practices against voluntary standards set by the Australian and New Zealand Association of Physicians in Nuclear Medicine.
