DECLARATION OF QUALITY ASSURANCE ACTIVITY
UNDER SECTION 124X
QAA No. 2/2004
I, ANTHONY JOHN ABBOTT, Minister for Health and Ageing, under Section 124X of the Health Insurance Act 1973 (the Act):
DECLARE the Activity described in the Schedule to this declaration (the Activity) to be a quality assurance activity to which Part VC of the Act applies being satisfied in relation to the Activity that:
(i)the organisations engaging in the Activities are authorised to do so by bodies that provide health services at Item 1 and by associations of health professionals at Items 2 and 3;
(ii)it is in the public interest that Part VC of the Act apply to the Activity having regard to the criteria prescribed in regulations 23C to 23G (inclusive) of the Health Insurance Regulations 1975.

Item Description of Quality Assurance Activity

1. Organisation engaging in activity: Northern Territory Department of Health and Community Services – Royal Darwin Hospital and Top End Mental Health Services.
Title: Advanced Incident Management System – Documentation, monitoring and management of potential and actual adverse patient and visitor events occurring in the Royal Darwin Hospital and Top End Mental Health Service.
Description: The Activity is a study of the incidence or causes of conditions or circumstances that may affect the quality of health services. The purpose of the Activity is to conduct a study of anonymous reporting of adverse incidents, analyse reports received and advise appropriate bodies of the results.
2. Organisation engaging in activity: Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Title: Practice improvement in perinatal mortality audit program for rural obstetricians and paediatricians.
Description: The Activity seeks to improve the audit, investigation and peer review skills of specialists who have been involved in perinatal deaths in rural areas. These lessons can be used by clinicians to improve clinical and organisational practice.
3. Organisation engaging in activity: The Australian Safety and Efficacy Register of New Interventional Procedures – Surgical (ASERNIP-S).
Title: Audit of the endoluminal repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms.
Description: The Activity aims to obtain mid- to long-term information relating to the safety and efficacy of this procedure from all surgeons who perform the procedure throughout Australia.
