DECLARATION OF QUALITY ASSURANCE ACTIVITY

UNDER SECTION 124X

QAA No. 1/2004

I, ANTHONY JOHN ABBOTT, Minister for Health and Ageing, under Section 124X of the Health Insurance Act 1973 (the Act):

  1. AMEND the declaration of quality assurance activity made on 8 September 1999 (QAA No. 2/1999) by:

(i)omitting Item 2 of the Schedule to the declaration (Australia and New Zealand Heart Valve Registry) and all references to that Item from that declaration; and

  1. DECLARE the Activity described in the Schedule to this declaration (the Activity) to be a quality assurance activity to which Part VC of the Act applies being satisfied in relation to the Activity that:

(i)the persons engaging in the Activity are authorised to do so by a research body;

(ii)it is in the public interest that Part VC of the Act apply to the Activity having regard to the criteria prescribed in regulations 23C to 23G (inclusive) of the Health Insurance Regulations 1975.

Title:Australia and New Zealand Heart Valve Registry

Description:  The purpose of the activity is to identify, locate and track patients implanted with a Bjork – Shiley Convexo -Concave heart valve through an independent registry and to measure, analyse and report the morbidity and mortality of patients who have had one of these valves explanted.
